Apple will unveil New Ipad3 next week according to cnbc

All information seems to point to the fact that Apple will unveil their new ipad 3 sometime next week, likely in New York or San Francisco. The next-generation iPad 3 will spot a quad-core processor and 4G LTE connectivity as well as a high-resolution 2,048 x 1,536-pixel display. CNBC noted on their twitter account earlier this morning.

SAMSUNG OVERTAKES APPLE AS THE NEW SMARTPHONE LEADER

Before the Samsung Galaxy Nexus even goes on sale, Samsung has managed to take the lead against Apple to become the largest mobile phone maker by revenue in the third quarter of 2011. Nokia still holds the crown for mobile phone sales by volume, while Apple has dropped behind both to take the number three spot in terms of revenue.

While Samsung didn’t release its exact numbers, the Guardian spoke to Daiwa Securities technology analyst Jae Lee, who estimates that Samsung sold around 28 million phones in the third quarter. In the same period, Apple only sold 17 million phones, though it’s a tough comparison to make since Apple releases one phone a year while Samsung releases quite a few more than that.

With the help of the Samsung Galaxy S II no doubt, Samsung’s telecommunications business broke records this quarter with sales of 14.9 trillion won (US $13.5 billion), up 37 percent from last year. While declining to offer sales figures for handsets, a Samsung spokesperson said that smartphones sales had quadrupled from the previous quarter, with overall handset shipments increasing by more than 20 percent.

Pulling from Gartner research, the Guardian calculates that 20 percent increase to be shipments of about 86 million handsets between July and September. All the while, Samsung is still wrapped up in a massive legal spat with Apple and has still managed to grab the crown

NOKIA ANNOUNCES THEIR FIRST WINDOWS PHONE- NOKIA LUMIA 800

We’ve heard the rumors, seen the leaks, and now it’s official – Nokia’s ‘Sea Ray’ handset is finally a reality. Officially called the Nokia Lumia 800, the handset shares the same form-factor as the oh-so-sexy Nokia N9, while adding Windows Phone under the hood.

During the keynote this morning in London, Nokia CEO and President Steven Elop described the handset as “The First Real Windows Phone.”

With the purchase of the 800 you score three Nokia-specific features forcing on navigation, music, and sports.

Navigation: The Nokia 800 includes Nokia Drive for free, making it the only Windows Phone with free turn-by-turn directions. You can download maps at home, but the maps will connect and download additional map information if you drive out of your planned route.

Music: Nokia Music offers Nokia customers something like a Pandora experience, with special “mixes” of tunes you can listen to based around a certain genre of music. There’s no login or subscription to listen to jams while you’re out and about, and music can be made available offline, for listening to places where you might not get a cell or Wi-Fi signal like planes. Your favorite mixes can be pinned to the home screen on the handset for easy access.

Sports: Nokia has partnered with ESPN for Nokia Sports Hub. The Hub can give you quick up-to-date information on your favorite teams or favorite players.

Spec-wise we’re looking at a handset pretty similar to the Nokia N9. The 800 has a 3.7” AMOLED screen, 1.4GHz processor, and an 8-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture, which allows it to let in tons of light in dark situations, “that works well used by ordinary people under normal circumstances.”

8-megapixel rear-facing camera (f/2.2)
WiFi
Micro USB
16GB Built-in Storage (no microSD expansion)
Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR
USB 2.0 High-Speed
3.5mm AHJ Connector
Bluetooth Stereo Audio

The estimated retail price for the Nokia Lumia 800 will be approximately 420 EUR, excluding taxes and subsidies. The handset will initially be available in pink, blue, and black and is shipping now (we actually saw one being put in a box in Finland to head out to retail stores) with plans to go on sale in the UK, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, and Germany in early NoVEMBERNOKIA LUMIA 800

SAD DAY- APPLE’S long time ceo STEVE JOBS HAS PASSED AWAY

Based on the statement issued by Apple’s Board of Directors, company co-founder and longtime CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs has passed away.

APPLE HAS RELEASED THE NEW IPHONE 4S

It’s official: sixteen months after the launch of the last iteration, Apple CEO Tim Cook has just taken the stage to announce the next iPhone. It’s called the iPhone 4S.

… and it looks exactly like an iPhone 4.

Uncharacteristically for Apple, official word of the iPhone 4S actually crossed the wire a bit early when the page for Apple’s store in Ginza, Japan mentioned the device.

The whispers around the rumor mill constantly contradicted each other regarding Apple’s next iPhone. Some foresaw the iPhone 4S; others saw an iPhone 5 on the way. Some claimed it’d be both. If an iPhone 5 is on this year’s launch calendar, it hasn’t been mentioned yet at this event.

The specs disclosed so far:

Dual-core A5 CPU, said to be “2x as fast at CPU tasks”
Dual-core graphics, up to “7x faster than the previous iPhone”
Battery life estimates: 8 hours talk time on 3G, 14 hours on 2G. 6 hours of browsing on 3G, 9 on Wi-Fi. 10 hours of video playback, 40 hours of music.
Theoretical download speeds of 14.4Mbps (as opposed to 7.2 on the iPhone 4.) Interestingly, Schiller called out Motorola, LG, and HTC for calling these speeds “4G”.
World Phone (in other words, the one model will handle both GSM [like AT&T] and CDMA [like Verizon], and it should work well in most countries around the world)
8 megapixel camera (Photo resolution: 3264 x 2448). The camera also takes advantage of image processing on the A5 chip, enabling stuff like Face detection and 26% more accurate white balance.
1080p video recording with real-time noise reduction and video stabilization (!)
Voice-controlled personal assistant. You can ask things like “Will it rain in Cupertino?”, or “Can you find me a Greek Restaurant in Palo Alto?”, or “What’s the time in Paris?” and it’ll answer accordingly. This is the culmination of their purchase of Siri back in 2010 — and surprisingly enough, they’re keeping the “Siri” name.

AMAZON WILL LAUNCH NEW KINDLE TABLET CALLED KINDLE FIRE ON WEDNESDAY

Last Friday, Amazon sent out invites to a press conference being held this coming Wednesday. They didn’t give away any details in the invite, but given our scoop earlier this month, everyone assumed it was to unveil the new Kindle tablet. We can now confirm this is correct. And we know a bit more.

On Wednesday morning in New York City, Amazon will unveil the Kindle Fire. Yes, this is the name Amazon has settled on, to help differentiate the product from the e-ink Kindles, which will still be very much alive and for sale. And while Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos will show off the Fire on stage, it won’t be ready to ship until the second week of November, we’ve learned.

Everything we’ve previously reported on the hardware remains the same. It will be a 7-inch backlit display tablet that looks similar to the BlackBerry PlayBook. Gdgt’s Ryan Block was able to dig up a bit more about the connection. Apparently, the Kindle Fire looks like a PlayBook because it was designed and built by the same original design manufacturer (ODM), Quanta. Even though Amazon has their own team dedicated to Kindle design and development, Lab 126, they wanted to get the Fire out there in time for this holiday season so they outsourced most of it as a shortcut.

Block’s sources seem very wary of this shortcut move. But having played with a DVT model myself, I can assure you that it’s better than the PlayBook because the software is better and, more importantly, the content available is much better. Amazon has built their own custom version of Android (that looks nothing like Android) and it utilizes their own Android Appstore. While that store doesn’t offer all the apps found in Google’s Android Market, Amazon has been rounding up the big app makers to get them on board for the Fire launch, I’m told.

Amazon has also been inking last-minute deals with the likes of Fox for movies and TV shows through their streaming video service which will be a key part of the Fire. And they have several publishers on board for magazine offerings, as Peter Kafka reports today. The Fire will rely heavily on Amazon’s MP3 service and, of course, the Kindle bookstore.

One thing I wasn’t sure about when I saw the device was if there would be an email client. I didn’t see one, but I thought maybe I missed it. Turns out there won’t be one included by default. Instead, you’ll be able to get one through the Appstore, or you can use the browser.

Another thing I wasn’t sure about was the chip inside of the device. I’ve now learned it’s a TI dual-core OMAP chip. This is the same chip used inside many newer Android devices. The PlayBook also uses it. I’m not sure what the clock-speed of the CPU will be, but I’d guess 1.2 GHz. This will make it significantly faster than the rival Nook Color, which uses a single core 800 MHz OMAP.

But…

Sources also suggest that Barnes & Noble is on the verge of launching the Nook Color 2 next month. In fact, that may play into Amazon’s timing here. They’re announcing the device well over a month before it will be available. Sources suggest that the Nook Color 2 will feature a 1.2 GHz OMAP chip, with a focus on displaying multimedia content better. There will also be a focus on streaming content and a big increase in the number of apps available, we’re told.

The Nook Color 2 will also be built on top of Gingerbread, Android 2.3, we hear. That would put it ahead of the Kindle Fire, which is believed to be based on Android 2.1. Again, neither of them look anything like Android, but the APIs available are key when it comes to the Android version.

And then there’s the issue of the price. While the Nook Color 2 is expected to retail for the same $250 that the current Nook Color does (and the original one may drop to $200), the pricing of the Kindle Fire is a bit of a mystery right now. Originally, we were told it would be the same $250. But there have also been whispers floating around that it could be $300.

We also originally heard that Amazon Prime would be included, as a big enticement for would-be buyers. That may be off the table for now as well — but it’s not yet clear. It’s possible Amazon will release one version with Prime included for $300 and a version without it for $250. Getting Amazon Prime for $50 would still be a deal, since it’s normally $79 for the year.
